HELLO, I’M JOHN.

I have over 25 years of professional experience in mental health services, providing psychotherapy and counseling to diverse clients in the Southern California area. In addition to the educational degrees above, I completed advanced graduate studies in East-West psychology at California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. These studies integrated traditional Western psychology with the wisdom and practices of Eastern spirituality and faith-based traditions. I specialize in psychotherapy for adults suffering from anxiety, depression, work/career stress, grief and loss, relationship conflicts, existential or spiritual/faith-based issues, and life transition challenges. I have developed a newly found and effective focus on the integration of cognitive-behavioral therapy with mindfulness-based interventions and practices. My therapeutic work is rooted firmly in the following beliefs: in the unconditional worth of each person; in the necessity for each individual to discover values, meaning, and purpose; and in the human capacity to transcend suffering and to move forward in committed action in the direction of healing and growth. I practice wellness in my own life through meditation, exercise, meaningful relationships, and experiencing the abundance of beauty in nature.
